Live Music Is Great! · Oct 27, 12:25 PM

So on Tuesday October 25th, 2005 at 7:30 I got to see two great bands! I was so happy months ago when I heard these two bands were joining forces.

The opening band was Hot Hot Heat, the only song of theirs that I heard was the Goodnight song, you know, “so goodnight gooood niiiiiight, you’re emabarrassing me….” one. They were alright, I guess, but they didn’t get too much love seeing as how they were opening for Weezer and the Foo Fighters, did I forget to tell you that those were the two bands I was talking about? Aww shucks!

I can’t explain how much I love both these bands.

Like most people out there I am more of a Weezer fan circa the Blue Album and Pinkerton, which is great because they mostly played their old stuff anyway. As I was listening to them perform I was amazed at how many of the words to a lot of their songs I actually knew, it was so much fun! Then they did their big finale, the leade singer played the drums to a Blur song while the drummer played the lead geeetar and sang to “Song 2”. Then they faded to black and I was like, “How could they not play Undone, or Buddy Holly?” But to my surprise they faked us out and came back to play 3 more songs! I don’t know all the names of their songs, but the songs they did play were: My Name is Jonas, Say It Ain’t So, El Scorcho, Island in the Sun, Undone (the sweater song), Hashpipe, Beverly Hills, Tired of Sex (one of my favorite ones), Why Bother, the Good Life, Surf Wax America, Dope Nose, Keep Fishin’. I will admit that when they played “Keep Fishin’” I was a bit sad when I didn’t see any Muppets. I mean they use them in the music video, why not bring Kermit and Beaker with you? I am sure the Swedish Chef can fuckin party, and what about Animal? He totally could;ve rocked those drums! Another amusing moment for me was when Rivers was singing “El Scorcho”, you know the part where he says, “I asked you to go to the Green Day concert?” Well he switched up the words to, “I asked you to go to the Foo Fighters concert, you said you never heard of them….” Oh how amusing that was for me. All in all Weezer can fucking rock and if you don’t believe me or you hate Weezer, well then fuck off!
The Foo Fighters performance was great as well. Their lighting and special effects were way better than Weezer’s. It kind of seemed like they played less stuff than Weezer, but they did talk less, so maybe that’s why it seemed that way. As far as energy I think the Foo Fighters owned Weezer. I loved when Dave Grohl went into the crowd sat down next to some guy and played his geeetar, it was funny watching the crazy fans. He even made a comment about the guy sitting next to him saying, “Oh my god you’re DAVE!” No shit asshole, you couldn’t think of anything else to say to him? But my most favorite part of the show? When they turned the lights out except for a spotlight and Dave Grohl began to play my favorite song “Everlong” by himself, how awesome is that song? Then towards the end of the song they turned the lights onto the whole stage and the rest of the band joined in, it was great!

Oh how I wish I could marry Dav Grohl. If they haven’t played in the SLC yet and are scheduled to I highly suggest picking up a ticket, it was great fun, minus the lame 13 year olds moshing and crowd surfing to Weezer and the Foo Fighters, that’s LAME!
